New York Giants News And Rumors: Moving On Without…

The New York Giants today announced the schedule for their 2011 training camp, which will be held at their regular-season practice facility, the Timex Performance Center. The first practice will be held Saturday, and the first practice which could involve any hitting will be on Monday, Aug. 1.

All practices are scheduled to go from 6 p.m. ET until 8:10 p.m.

ll training camp practice sessions will be open to the public and general admission seating for approximately 2,000 is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Standing room along the fence line outside the practice field is also available. There is no admission charge for watching training camp workouts and parking is free. Public parking is in Lot K on the grounds of the Meadowlands Sports Complex. The lots will open to the public one hour before the scheduled start time of practice and lots will close one hour following the conclusion of practice.

With the new rules eliminating two-a-day practices, other than some “walk-thru” type practices teams will be allowed to hold, it will be interesting to see how different these practices will be. The change in setting, from the University at Albany to the Timex Performance Center, will also be something to watch.

Due to the uncertainty created by the NFL lockout, the Giants have decided not to travel for training camp and instead stay home at their Meadowlands practice facility.

Jul 8, 2011 – Roughly half the NFL still travels to another site for training camp but with the uncertainty surrounding the league this year due to the NFL lockout, some teams are making the decision to stay home. First, it the Baltimore Ravens who announced they would be conducting training camp at their facility and then it was the New York Jets who announced last week they too would be staying home.

The latest team to move training camp — New York Giants. Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News reports the Giants, who normally conduct training camp in Albany, will instead be working at their Meadowlands practice facility.

The first training camps open on July 22 for the Bears and Rams, who play in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 7. Most teams open camp the following week around the 29th.

It was previously thought that a labor agreement would need to be completed by July 15 in order for teams to make training camp plans on time but the Giants are the third team to change their camp plans already.

If a labor deal isn’t reached soon, more teams will be following suit.
