The former New York Giants superstar has been sentenced to six months probation after cutting a plea deal with prosecutors. As part of the deal, the “Hall of Fame” star must register as a sex offender.

Taylor pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and soliciting a prostitute in January. He was initially charged with raping a 16-year-old runaway, criminal sexual acts, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child after he was arrested at a Ramapo, New York hotel last May.

The 52-year-old former linebacker has been known for living a controversial life style, during and after his playing career in NFL. Before his sex-crime scandal emerged, he admitted to using cocaine as early as his second year in the NFL. He was suspended several times by the league for failing drugs tests. But sadly, his drug abuse escalated even worse after his retirement. He was jailed three times for attempted drug possession. From 1998 to 2009, Taylor lived a sober, drug-free life. He worked as a color commentator on sporting events after his retirement, and pursued a career as an actor.

The girl, now 17, appeared in court with well-known attorney Gloria Allred and said afterward that Taylor should have gone to jail. The girl has been identified in court and by Allred only by her initials, C.F.

The teen denied she is a prostitute and said another man forced her to go to Taylor’s hotel room in May 2010. She believes Taylor could tell that she had been beaten and that she was underage. She said Taylor took “something precious” from her and should be behind bars.

Allred said the girl had wanted to read a victim-impact statement in court. The judge, however, said victims are entitled to speak only at felony sentencings. Taylor had pleaded guilty to misdemeanors.

Taylor was arrested May 6 at a Holiday Inn in Montebello, N.Y., after the girl’s uncle contacted New York City police. The ex-athlete was charged with third-degree rape because she was underage.

When he pleaded guilty to the lesser charges, Taylor admitting having intercourse with the girl, who turned out to be a Bronx runaway. He said she told him she was 19, but he added that he now knows the girl was 16 and legally incapable of consent. He said he paid her $300.

Taylor led the New York Giants to Super Bowl titles in 1987 and 1991. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.

In 2009, he competed in ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” He had also been a spokesman for the weight-loss company NutriSystem, but he was dropped after his arrest.

Taylor also will have to abide by the conditions of a sex offender. But the judge postponed until April 12 a hearing to determine what level of sex offender will be assigned to him.

All sex offenders have to report their address annually and report any changes in 10 days.

In Level 1 and 2, offenders have to get their picture taken every three years; in Level 3, it’s every year. Level 3 offenders also have to report the name and address of their employer and advise of any change.

John Caher, spokesman for the state Criminal Justice Services Division, said that although Level 1 offenders aren’t posted on a public website, anyone who calls the division can find out if a person is a sex offender.

The other man has been identified in a separate federal prosecution in Manhattan as Rasheed Davis, who is accused of acting as the girl’s pimp and who allegedly assaulted her and brought her to Taylor’s hotel room. Prosecutors have credited Taylor with helping them in that case.

April 12 hearing

In addition, Taylor will be permitted to serve his probation in Broward County, Fla., where he lives.

Kelly offered Taylor a chance to speak in court before the sentencing but Taylor declined, saying, “I’m fine, judge.”

Allred would not say whether her client plans to sue Taylor.

She said Taylor “should be in the hall of shame, not the Hall of Fame.”

The alleged pimp charged with supplying an underage hooker to fallen New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor called an audible in his court case yesterday.

Rasheed Davis fired his third lawyer after rejecting a sweetheart plea bargain for no more than 105 months in the slammer.

If he goes to trial and is convicted, Davis could face life in prison.

Davis, 37, was unhappy with the mouthpiece hired by his family, said Steven Frankel, a stand-in lawyer, during a brief hearing in Manhattan federal court.

Magistrate Judge Henry Pittman said the case would be re-assigned to Davis’ previous court-appointed counsel, who replaced a public defender Davis also didn’t like.

The ex-con faces at least 10 years in prison — and a maximum of life — if convicted of pimping out a 16-year-old Bronx runaway whom he allegedly beat to make her service Taylor in a Rockland County hotel last year.

The disgraced linebacker pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in a no-jail plea bargain in January.

There are years in which it’s tough to determine which rookies on each side of the ball are the best and most valuable players.

This was not one of those years.

For the first time since 1981, when New Orleans Saints running back George Rogers and New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor (you may have heard of him) did it, St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford(notes) and Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh(notes) won the Associated Press Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year awards having been picked first and second overall in the draft. There were other outstanding rookies on offense and defense in 2010, but Bradford and Suh earned these awards as much as any rookies have in the past.

For Bradford, it was his ability to take a team that had won just six games in the previous three years and help the Rams to seven wins, a near-division title, and a near-playoff berth. Bradford was the first quarterback ever taken first overall to win the award, and he did it by throwing (590) and completing (354) the most passes by any rookie quarterback in NFL history, as well as throwing for the second-most passing yards among all NFL rookies (3,512) and the fifth-most touchdowns (18) to just 15 interceptions.

With offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur at the helm for the Rams in 2010, Bradford threw an inordinate number of short passes, averaging just 5.95 yards per attempt. But with former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels in charge of St. Louis’ passing game going forward, look for Bradford to display more of his freakish downfield accuracy.

“It means a lot to me when you look at this award and see who has won it in the past. It reflects what we were able to do as a team this year,” Bradford said of the award.

Suh was even more dominant, establishing himself as one of the truly great interior linemen in the game as he developed through his rookie season. He ended his year with 10 sacks, the second-most by any first-year interior lineman, and was the only rookie elected to the All-Pro team,

Incredibly, for all their recent futility as a franchise, the Lions have the most AP Rookies of the Year of any NFL team – a grand total of seven. Suh joins RB Mel Farr (1976), CB Lem Barney (1967), WR Earl McCullough (1968), DE Al “Bubba” Baker (1978), RB Billy Sims (1980) and RB Barry Sanders (1989) as prior winners.

“It is a great honor and one of the highest honors I can receive on the defensive side of the ball,” Sun said after the award was announced. “I really, truly can’t thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches enough. They have been a huge part of it and the main reason I was able to be honored with this.”

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who has been in the league for decades, has said that Suh is the best defensive tackle he’s ever seen, and the only draft prospect ever to receive a perfect grade in his rating system.

Former NFL star Lawrence Taylor pleaded guilty today to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute, misdemeanor charges that carry no jail time but require him to register as a sex offender.

The 51-year-old ex-linebacker, who led the New York Giants to Super Bowl titles in 1987 and 1991, will serve six years probation.

“She told me she was 19,” Taylor, standing with his hands clasped behind him, said in court as he admitted having sex with a prostitute who turned out to be a 16-year-old Bronx runaway. Taylor said he now knows the girl was legally incapable of consent.

Harry Carson, his former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer, was in the courtroom and gave Taylor a supportive handshake when he arrived.

Prosecutor Patricia Gunning said the plea deal was acceptable in part because Taylor had assisted in investigations into human trafficking since he was charged. Another prosecutor, Arthur Ferraro, said outside court that Taylor “was of assistance in the field of human trafficking in several jurisdictions and with federal authorities.”

Taylor was arrested in May at a suburban hotel.

He previously had pleaded not guilty to third-degree rape, patronizing a prostitute, sexual abuse and endangering a child. He had been resisting a plea deal for months.

Prosecutors said in December that Taylor had been offered a six-month jail term and 10 years’ probation in exchange for pleading guilty to a felony. Taylor would have had to register as a sex offender. Defense attorney Arthur Aidala had called that offer unacceptable but said he would listen to any other offers.

Two other members of the Giants’ 1991 Super Bowl team are behind bars. Mark Ingram Sr., a star receiver, is spending nearly 10 years in federal prison for money laundering, bank fraud and bail jumping. And the electrifying kick returner Dave Meggett was sentenced last year to 30 years for criminal sexual conduct and burglary.

Taylor’s trial would likely have started within a few weeks.

He was arrested May 6 after the underage girl’s uncle contacted New York City police. Officers from Ramapo woke him at a Holiday Inn in Montebello.

Police said he was cooperative and no drugs were found in the room, although a bottle of alcohol was. Taylor has a history of drug offenses but has been to rehab, and his lawyer says Taylor has been sober for years.

“The whole L.T. persona, to me that’s an act,” Carson said before court. “I’m here for Lawrence Taylor. I’m not here for L.T. … Once he went through some of the stuff he went through, he realized that was a hindrance to himself and his family.”

In court, Carson, sitting in the front row of the gallery, reached over a low wall into the defendant’s area and straightened Taylor’s overcoat collar.

In a related case, federal prosecutors in Manhattan filed a complaint last year against a man who is accused of acting as the girl’s pimp. Court papers in that case say Taylor admitted to sex acts with the girl but said he was told the girl was 19.

Ramapo police Chief Peter Brower said after Taylor’s arrest that ignorance of a minor’s age is not a defense to third-degree rape.

Aidala had claimed that Taylor’s arrest was illegal because police did not have a warrant when they burst into his suburban hotel room in May. Prosecutors said no warrant was required and state Supreme Court Justice William Kelly rejected the claim. But he granted a pretrial hearing on whether statements Taylor made upon his arrest were admissible.

Aidala said in December he was relishing the chance to cross-examine the arresting police officers.

Taylor was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999. A fierce, athletic linebacker, he redefined his position and was selected to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.

In 2009, he competed in ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” He had also been a spokesman for the NutriSystem weight-loss company, but he was dropped after his arrest.

Sentencing is March 22. That day, state Supreme Court Justice William Kelly will determine what level of sex offender status Taylor will have.

His lawyer said he would seek to have Taylor’s probation transferred to Florida, where the former player now lives.
