A 2009 fourth-round draft pick of the New York Giants, Brown didn’t even get to suit up for a preseason game. he didn’t even attend any games. Brown, 23, has gone through a year of rehabilitation and may be the happiest of the Giants to see the new Meadowlands stadium on Monday night, when they meet the New York Jets in an ESPN-televised game.

Bears sign LB Smith

The Chicago Bears have signed linebacker Kelvin Smith to a one-year contract and waived Antonio Robinson. A seventh-round draft pick out of Syracuse by Miami in 2007, Smith has appeared in seven games — four with the Dolphins his first year and three with the Carolina Panthers in 2009.

NEW YORK New York Giants rookie safety Chad Jones is heading home to New Orleans after a nearly monthlong stay in the hospital. The Giants said the third-round draft pick from LSU was scheduled to be released from the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Tuesday to return to home.

New York Giants third-round draft pick and former LSU two-sport star Chad Jones has been hospitalized following a car accident. LSU athletics spokesman Michael Bonnette says the former Tigers safety and baseball standout was injured in a single-vehicle accident in New Orleans early Friday. The university says Jones was admitted to the LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans in guarded condition.
