| NY: Former NFL Star Michael Strahan for Gay Marriage | |
Michael Strahan, the former defensive end for the New York Giants, and his fiancee, Nicole Murphy, have filmed a video in support of marriage equality for the Human Rights Campaign.
“As a defensive end for the New York Giants, I always played the game tough but fair,” says Strahan, now an actor and football analyst for Fox, in the video. “It’s unfair to stop committed couples from getting married.” The former NFL star joins professional athletes Sean Avery from the New York Rangers and Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns in contributing a video to the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality Campaign. The campaign uses high-profile figures and everyday New Yorkers to urge viewers to lobby their lawmakers to pass the marriage equality bill before the legislative session ends on June 20. According to the New York Daily News, O’Hara had a screw placed in his injured foot. He is expected to undergo a second surgery to repair his left ankle and Achilles later. O’Hara missed 10 games last season due to injuries in both feet. He has a bone chip that was hurting his Achilles tendon in his left ankle and then he suffered the Lisfranc injury in his other foot. O’Hara will not participate in the Pro Bowl because of his surgeries, but the Giants aren’t short on representation. Long snapper Zak DeOssie was selected by Falcons coach Mike Smith for the NFC Pro Bowl squad on Thursday. He joins guard Chris Snee, defensive end Justin Tuck and safety Antrel Rolle. ESPNNewYork.com Archive Osi Umenyiora underwent successful surgery to repair his hip on Monday, according to a source. Giants blog
The source confirmed a report by the Newark Star Ledger that the New York Giants defensive end had the surgery to alleviate pain that was related to a torn labrum injury he suffered back in 2006. Umenyiora may need three months of recovery time, according to the report. Of course, there could be a work stoppage with a new collective bargaining agreement needing to be worked out so Umenyiora potentially might not miss much if there is even an offseason workout program this year. Umenyiora had 11.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles despite playing through pain in his hip and knees all season long. Ohm Youngmisuk covers the Giants for ESPNNewYork.com. Follow him on Twitter.
